China’s first oil-to-electricity mining truck has been deployed in an extremely cold mining area—how will the challenge of charging be addressed?

The era of converting mining trucks from diesel to electric has already arrived. Recently, domestically… The first 220-ton-class mining dump truck The SF33900 has completed its full-electric conversion and has entered the trial‑operation phase at the Baorixile Open‑Pit Coal Mine of Yanbao Energy.

Yanbao Energy Baorixile Open-Pit Coal Mine It is located near Baorixile Town, Chenbarhu Banner, Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, in the central part of the Hulunbuir Grassland, approximately 15 kilometers from the center of Hulunbuir City. Due to Located in the extreme cold zone Located on the edge of the Arctic Circle, the harsh climatic conditions pose significant challenges to coal mining operations.

According to the available data:
In extreme cold conditions, charging requires effective thermal management and insulation to ensure the battery operates reliably. When the ambient temperature drops below zero, the activity of both the electrolyte and the electrodes decreases significantly, leading to a reduction in the electrode reaction rate and, consequently, degrading the battery’s charging efficiency and discharge capability. Meanwhile, in low-temperature environments, charging equipment may fail due to insufficient internal component temperatures, necessitating devices with thermal insulation capabilities.
In addition, the equipment must feature an effective cooling system to prevent overheating. However, conventional air-cooling solutions become significantly less efficient in extremely cold conditions, as cold air entering the cabinet directly can adversely affect the batteries. Under such circumstances, the equipment is required to incorporate liquid‑cooling technology.
Liquid cooling technology It employs a high‑thermal‑conductivity liquid, such as an ethylene glycol solution, as the heat-transfer medium to isolate the core components from the external environment. The liquid‑cooling system then carries this cooling medium to the heat‑generating device elements, after which the coolant circulates continuously within the system.

Mine car charger:
This time, the 220-ton-class mining dump truck at the Baorixile Open-Pit Coal Mine of Yanbao Energy has adopted… Xiangdian Group and our company The jointly developed 3 MW high-power liquid-cooled charger, The Ruisu 3 MW high-power charging station is specifically designed for 220‑ton class all‑electric mining dump trucks. The charger incorporates the latest liquid‑cooling technology,

3 MW charging terminal (left) and host unit (right)

In addition to the terminal’s liquid‑cooling capability, the main cabinet also supports it, providing all‑round cooling to ensure operational safety. This charger can deliver up to 3,000 A of current and features an MCS charging connector; the main cabinet is further equipped with air conditioning for temperature control. Given that megawatt‑class chargers have relatively heavy charging connectors and that mining areas typically have sparse staffing, our company has specially developed an unmanned manual plug‑in system to enable fully automated charging.
Automatic gun‑insertion robotic arm

Currently, our company has developed a 5 MW high‑power charging station and a 6 MWh mobile charge‑and‑store vehicle, capable of providing rapid charging for larger all‑electric commercial vehicles. We are committed to staying at the forefront of the market, delivering cutting‑edge technology for charging heavy‑duty electric vehicles. We welcome interested parties to visit us for discussions and guidance.
